April 22, 2021We have already covered the topic of Culture in Business in a previous article. Today we look at Culture of Thinking in businesses and the benefits.
At some point in our life someone has told us – “Just think a bit!” Whether it was a parent, teacher, friend, or your boss. Thinking is what humans do – but we also must admit that some people need more encouragement to think. L.O.L.
As a business that deals with compliance, standards, and company strategies – our ideal world would be one where we have contributed to create a Culture of Thinking within the organization. A culture that is outcome orientated and forward thinking. One that allows employees to contribute, be engaged, understand and be independent.
But WHY? Because
- Employees love to be empowered.
- Management love employees that take ownership.
The above outcome however will not be possible without opportunity for employees to be allowed to think.
Culture of Thinking (CoT’s) can be defined as places where a group’s collective as well as individual thinking is valued, visible and actively promoted. Some business cultures are so dead – and it is only expected of the manager to come up with vision, strategy, and solutions to any problem.
The challenge before you as a manager would be to respond in your next conversation with an employee with “What do you think?”. You will probably get a response that is one of shock. Key action now is to allow the employee time. When employees have the ability to generate, sustain and capitalize periods of total engagement (also read focused work) – it will allow them the much-needed energy for learning and thinking – and that again will result in generating solutions that contribute to your company vision.
Focused employees that are totally engaged when performing tasks – also have the much-needed energy to think whilst doing their tasks. This is a win-win situation. Employees feel empowered and management get a sense of employees taking ownership.
Create employees that are focused (totally engaged) as they will have the capacity to think – and in return a business with a Culture of thinking and a feeling of ownership.
Keep on growing those business cultures and remember to Think
