Why i-Manage?
February 14, 2023Digitization in agriculture allows business owners the opportunity to convert information into a digital format (computer readable and manageable format). The digitization in agriculture will allow agri-businesses to use data for better decision making, getting support from digital platforms will assist in pro-active management of risks and compliance and facilitate communication throughout the value chain when and as needed. Digitization in agriculture is nothing new and we have all become accustomed to things like Precision Farming, Field monitoring, Precision spraying and fertigation and even precision planting.
As Skyvines we are focusing and moving towards Digital Data Management. Digitization of data is projected to be worth around $845 million by 2025 (only 2 years from now). Digitization options currently applied in agriculture is a fast-growing industry.
The risk with such a fast-growing transformation into the digital industry in agriculture, is what the experts call digital divide. For example, between connected (digitized farms) and disconnected farms, economically small and large enterprises and even between different generations (age of farmers). The risk we face by staling to grow, change or evolve from a non-digital platform to a digitized world, the bigger the divide will become.
Digital Data
The services that Skyvines bring as a business is mostly reliant on data, information, and knowledge. We have made conscious decisions in the last 5 years to digitize our service offering with client and Step 1 was to ensure that we get to a point where all management systems and related evidence is stored in a digital format for most clients. The use of Cloud Storage, Server Storage enabled this. Services such as OneDrive for Business, MS Teams and Dropbox was the solution that we all needed when the Covid-19 pandemic struck, and we were prepared to accommodate the remote work environment when we were forced to do so. We still had access to all the information we needed to bring excellence to our clients via Cloud Services and or server storage.
We have now reached a stage where we will progress to the next step. Step 2 would be to digitize the data, to ensure that our agreement with I-Manage platform creates the opportunity for Skyvines and our customers to reap the rewards and benefits of digitization…
The benefits we have identified for our customers will be:
- Increased economic, environmental and compliance performance.
- Environmental Sustainability and helping agriculture to become greener.
- Pro-active management of compliance criteria
- Competitiveness with regards to be more efficient and compliant
- Improved conditions for agri-businesses and their employees
- Improved transparency
Sure, there are real challenges that comes with this transformation, some can be managed and others that will be overcome together.
- Lack of awareness of benefits
- Connectivity issues in remote areas
- Independency of most systems
- Appropriate skills with agricultural sector
- Benefit: Cost ration
- Reluctance to share data.
